Spanish Numbers 0-15 & Alphabet- Los Numeros y el Alfabeto
Spanish numbers seem so simple; learning them and memorizing them can be. Remembering them, recalling them, and then pronouncing them correctly are that other thing, or otra cosa. Most Spanish learners don’t use numbers in Spanish that much. Then writing and spelling them correctly really is the icing on the cake.
A detailed knowledge of Spanish numbers can be so helpful for
- practicing the letter to sound relationships in Spanish- or the phonics

1993 Spelling Change of Spanish Numbers
I’m old enough to have had to learn to spell the Spanish numbers twice! In 1993 the Real Academia, or Royal Academy, took ballots from each Spanish speaking country and a unanimous vote called for changing the spelling of some numbers. (also for deleting a couple of extra alphabet letters) I certainly learned the numbers way before.
Before 1993, all numbers from 16 to 30 used three words: diez y seis (16) or veinte y cuatro. 16-29 then became one word: dieciséis and veinticuatro.
See all of the vowels in the number-words? They’re difficult to spell and sometimes to say, but lots of practice is great for more authentic pronunciation.
